"A Pungent Character"...my Gnomon Dvd

At the end of last year I had the good fortune of doing a Masterclass for the Gnomon Workshop, in which I spent about 11 hours sculpting this totally sexy character in front of the camera. The tutorial (running time about 3 hrs, not 11!) is now available as a Dvd from the Gnomon website, which is here:

If you think my Dvd might be interesting and/or helpful, please give it a look!

Thank you to everyone at Gnomon Workshop, Scott Spencer for all his help, and Richard Taylor, Wayne Barlowe and Jamie Beswarick for their kind words.

  1. Fantastic Dave - brilliant character and this'll be a brilliant DVD. Good on you for sharing your talent and insights man.
Now we have to convince Beswarick to do the same!

  2. Whoa fulla is kickin rad!
Love the expression on his face, looks like he is trying to explain how he forgot the chicken nuggets accidentally.
Have to check out that DVD!

  3. With such nasty visage, I'd expect nothing less than something of a pungent character. What an intense piece!

  11. Hey Dave, I finally picked this up (at long last). The quality and volume of stuff you turned out at Weta was always awe inspiring to me. And what a humbling moment when I first saw how absolutely masterful your pencil work was too! For years I wished I could take a day or two and just watch you sculpt without it being super creepy and awkward. I really loved finally getting that chance :)

I love the initial design and the final sculpt both. Also it's a very informative and well produced tutorial. Nice thoughts on inspiration and individuality as an artist too.

You are and always have been far too humble about your own work and hard earned skill, but it only makes you and your work more endearing. Kudos sir. Kudos.
